About the position

The Director of Hospital Risk Management at PIH Health Good Samaritan Hospital plays a crucial role in enhancing patient safety and minimizing risks within the healthcare environment. This position involves collaborating with organizational leadership, physicians, and staff to develop, implement, monitor, and evaluate the Enterprise Risk Management Plan. The Director is responsible for transitioning the risk management approach from a retrospective, reactive model to a proactive, prospective loss prevention strategy. This includes conducting clinical risk assessments, reviewing past incidents and claims, and analyzing hospital loss and liability reports to identify potential risks to the hospital. In this role, the Director will monitor the actions of hospital staff and their work environments to ensure compliance with existing policies and procedures. Investigating incidents that may lead to patient, visitor, or staff injuries, property damage, or asset loss is a key responsibility. The Director will also report on risk trends and management activities that impact the hospital, perform service recovery for patients and visitors, and coordinate responses to hospital complaints and grievances. The Director represents risk management in various meetings, including root cause analysis, disaster management, and ethics discussions. Evaluating potentially compensable events, claims, and lawsuits for underlying issues is essential, as is identifying opportunities for improvement and addressing lessons learned.
