About the position

4D Molecular Therapeutics is seeking an experienced Director, HR Business Partner to join our dynamic HR team. This pivotal role will primarily focus on supporting our Clinical and Research & Development (R&D) teams, ensuring alignment between business objectives and HR strategies. The Director will be instrumental in executing 4D's people strategies, which encompass organizational development, change management, employee engagement, employee relations, and performance management. In this capacity, you will consult, advise, coach, and influence both leaders and individual contributors on various people-related issues, fostering a culture of excellence and engagement within the organization. As a strategic liaison between HR and the business, particularly the R&D and Clinical teams, you will partner with HR leaders and executives to develop and implement effective HR policies and practices that support the strategic growth of the company. Your responsibilities will include coaching line managers on people management, HR practices, and employment law, as well as leading organizational assessments and talent gap analyses to translate business strategies into actionable plans. You will also play a key role in designing and implementing Learning & Development initiatives, contributing to employee engagement and retention strategies, and ensuring that HR programs are consistent with the company's diversity and inclusion goals. This role requires a proactive approach to identifying organizational challenges and designing innovative solutions. You will collaborate with various stakeholders to enhance organizational effectiveness and employee satisfaction, while staying current on HR trends to ensure that our solutions are progressive and relevant. The Director will also participate in the continual development of HR programs, including recruiting, retention, compensation, and benefits, ensuring that 4DMT remains a competitive and attractive employer in the biotech industry.

Responsibilities

  • Act as a strategic liaison between HR and the business with main focus on the R&D/Clinical teams
  • Partner with HR Leaders and Executives to develop and implement effective HR policies and practices that support strategic growth
  • Coach and consult line managers on people management, HR practices, policy, employment law, and performance management
  • Educate and partner with managers on change management, performance management, employee development, and career goals
  • Lead and support management in organizational assessment and talent gap analysis
  • Develop people strategies and design approaches for enhancing organizational effectiveness and employee satisfaction
  • Participate in talent calibration processes with VP, HR and leadership
  • Contribute to and design Learning & Development initiatives and strategy
  • Work with VP, HR on projects related to employee engagement and retention
  • Consult with stakeholders to identify and diagnose organizational problems and implement solutions
  • Collaborate with HR team to champion a culture of excellence
  • Identify opportunities and help shape strategies to address gaps
  • Participate in designing future DEI efforts and strategy
  • Drive adoption and consistency of HR programs with emphasis on Diversity and Inclusion initiatives
  • Provide timely information and education on HR issues to all levels of the company
  • Stay current on HR trends to ensure solutions are progressive and relevant
  • Collaborate with HR team in the continual development of HR programs.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree
  • 10+ years of HR experience, with at least 3 years supporting R&D/Clinical teams in a Business Partner role
  • Experience working in a publicly traded company and within the Life Sciences industry
  • Sound business acumen
  • Excellent judgment in handling confidential, sensitive information
  • Effective interpersonal skills to collaborate and build strong relationships
  • Excellent skills in developing effective presentations in PowerPoint
  • Self-driven with the ability to prioritize and multitask
  • Ability to work and communicate with employees at many levels across diverse cultures
  • Excellent overall communication, writing, and organizational skills
  • Extensive knowledge of Federal, California, and local legal regulations related to employment and HR policies
  • Experience with HRIS (preferably ADP), Microsoft Suite tools, benefits administration, and compensation tools.
