About the position

The Director of HR Operational Excellence (HR OpEx) at Ash Grove Cement plays a crucial role in enhancing and streamlining HR operational processes to ensure the efficient delivery of HR programs and projects. This position is responsible for leading and executing the strategic direction of various HR sub-functions, including Benefits, Compensation, HRIS (Human Resource Information Systems), and project management. The Director must ensure that HR operations align with the overall business strategy, fostering a high-performance culture that supports the organization's growth and success. In this role, the Director will promote and adhere to all plant safety guidelines while leading and directing the work of sub-functional teams focused on Benefits, Compensation, HRIS, and project management. Collaboration with internal stakeholders is essential to provide effective solutions that support the business within the HR function. The Director will drive operational efficiencies and process improvements throughout the employment lifecycle, ensuring that HR practices are not only effective but also aligned with the company's goals. The Director will also support the compensation team by providing direction and oversight of compensation programs, including job leveling, bonus programs, governance, and pay recommendations. Additionally, the role involves driving the HRIS roadmap in close collaboration with IT and external vendors to achieve the desired state of HR systems and reporting. Oversight of employee data management processes is critical to ensure data security and compliance with company policies and privacy regulations. Furthermore, the Director will be responsible for HR data and reporting, establishing consistent data points to proactively present insights to leadership. This position also includes providing oversight to the Benefits Manager, supporting Americas-wide benefit programs, and ensuring a positive employee experience. The Director will direct the development, implementation, and sustainment of policies and procedures for the business, establish KPIs for internal teams, and evaluate, select, and manage HR vendors in collaboration with HR and procurement teams. Assisting the VP of HR in preparing budgetary recommendations is also part of the role, along with additional duties as assigned by the supervisor.

Responsibilities

  • Promote and follow all plant safety guidelines.
  • Lead and direct work of sub-functional teams for Benefits, Compensation, HRIS, and project management.
  • Collaborate with internal stakeholders to provide solutions to support the business within the HR function.
  • Drive operational efficiencies & process improvement for core processes throughout the employment lifecycle.
  • Support compensation team with direction and oversight of compensation programs including job leveling, bonus programs, governance, and pay recommendations.
  • Drive HRIS roadmap working closely with IT and external vendors to achieve the desired state of HR systems and reporting.
  • Oversee employee data management processes to ensure that data is secure and maintained consistent with company policies and privacy regulations.
  • Responsible for HR data and reporting; establish and use consistent data points to proactively present data to leadership.
  • Provide oversight to the Benefits Manager while supporting Americas-wide benefit programs in place and ensuring a positive employee experience.
  • Direct development, implementation, and sustainment of policies and procedures for the business.
  • Establish KPIs for internal teams and ways to monitor progress.
  • Evaluate, select, and manage HR vendors working with HR and procurement teams.
  • Assist VP of HR in preparing HR budgetary recommendations.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned by supervisor.

Requirements

  • Minimum 4 Year - Bachelor's Degree in Human Resource Management, Management, Business Administration or related area of concentration.
  • SHRM-CP or SHRM-SCP or PHR or SPHR preferred.
  • Minimum 7 years of experience leading a team of HR professionals within sub-functional areas; proven success in process creation and transformational HR initiatives.
  • Knowledge of job analysis, job description, job evaluation, performance appraisal, performance-based incentive programs, goal-setting theories, and other aspects of compensation.
  • Knowledge of HR systems, processes and how to lead change.
  • Proficient in English, both written and verbal communication.
  • Strong critical thinking skills and decisive judgment.
  • Ability to work independently and maintain a high level of accuracy under pressure.
  • Ability to work within tight timeframes and meet strict deadlines.
  • Ability to perform, organize and prioritize work.
  • Ability to analyze facts and to exercise sound judgment in arriving at a conclusion.
