About the position

The Director of Human Resources for Corporate Finance at Travelers Insurance plays a pivotal role in managing human resources for a diverse customer base of over 300 employees across various departments, including Corporate Audit, Tax, Controller, and Treasury, primarily located in Hartford and St. Paul. This position is integral to influencing leadership and driving results for all human resource initiatives within the assigned customer groups. The Director will collaborate with senior management to develop and execute strategic business plans, ensuring that human resources services are aligned with business objectives and are both necessary and cost-effective. In this role, the Director will lead the human resources planning efforts to ensure that there are sufficient trained staff members to meet business goals. This includes establishing appropriate human resource systems for selection, training, and motivation of employees. The Director will also encourage progressive management practices and empower staff by providing the necessary tools and resources. Additionally, the Director will work closely with other human resources staff to develop policies and practices that align with corporate direction and support the specific plans of the customer groups. The Director will provide leadership for all human resources efforts within the customer group, consistently evaluating services to ensure they are efficient and effective. Responsibilities also include leading Enterprise Finance initiatives, serving as an HR advisor, and performing other duties as assigned. This position requires a seasoned human resource professional with extensive knowledge in organization development, employee relations, and compensation, as well as experience with HR systems like Workday. Some travel is expected, typically 2-3 trips per year between Hartford and St. Paul.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and execute plans and strategies to accomplish business objectives in conjunction with senior management.
  • Lead human resources planning efforts to ensure adequate staffing and training to meet business goals.
  • Establish and maintain human resource systems for selection, training, and motivation of staff.
  • Encourage progressive management practices and empower staff with necessary tools.
  • Participate in the development of policies and practices that align with corporate direction.
  • Provide leadership for all human resources efforts within the customer group.
  • Evaluate human resources services for alignment with business plans and cost-effectiveness.
  • Lead Enterprise Finance initiatives and support tools such as Career Hub.
  • Serve as HR Advisor for SHE Adds.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Minimum of five years related work experience, with experience in a generalist role.
  • College degree in Human Resources, Industrial Relations, business or other related course of study.
  • Broad knowledge of human resources including organization development, employee relations, performance management, compensation, and talent acquisition.
  • Extensive knowledge of human resources practices and policies.
  • Experience with Workday and other mainframe computer systems preferred.
  • Knowledge of property casualty insurance is helpful.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in a generalist position preferred.
  • Knowledge of litigation management and avoidance.
