About the position

The Director of Hydraulic Engineering at Tallgrass is responsible for leading hydraulic engineering and facility planning activities focused on decarbonization and clean energy projects, particularly in liquid and gas pipeline systems. This role involves working within the Project Management Engineering team to provide engineering expertise and support for pipeline simulation, ensuring the economic viability of CO2 potential development. The successful candidate will lead the design and evaluation of pipeline systems, utilizing industry-standard software, and will be instrumental in optimizing hydraulic models and conducting surge analysis.

Responsibilities

  • Lead hydraulic engineering and facility planning activities for decarbonization and clean energy projects.
  • Collaborate with design discipline engineers and drive projects forward as a decision maker.
  • Develop innovative and cost-effective hydraulic designs and prepare detailed design reports.
  • Ensure compliance with Health and Safety Regulations and industry practices.
  • Validate deliverables including calculations, drawings, and specifications as a Lead Verifier.
  • Conduct steady state and transient simulations using industry-standard software and prepare technical reports.
  • Review surge analysis for proposed pipelines and identify solutions for operational needs.
  • Provide expert consultation on hydraulic analysis and surge analysis for pipelines, pumps, and compressors.
  • Support commercial/business development by modeling potential projects and their hydraulic limitations.
  • Coordinate efforts with other departments and maintain clear communication with management.

Requirements

  • Master's or bachelor's degree in Engineering (Mechanical, Civil, Petroleum, or Chemical).
  • A minimum of 20 years of related pipeline experience.
  • At least 10 years of management experience in various areas of pipeline engineering.
  • Excellent project management skills with the ability to manage multiple projects under tight deadlines.
  • Subject matter expert level knowledge in steady-state and transient hydraulic software.
  • Experience in hydraulic modeling, pump and compressor performance testing.
  • Knowledge of automation, leak detection technologies, and SCADA systems.
  • Familiarity with DOT, EPA, OSHA regulations and pipeline safety standards.
  • Advanced proficiency in MS Office applications.

Nice-to-haves

  • Ph.D. or Master's degree in engineering.
  • Professional Engineering license.
  • Prior experience with CO2 Pipeline and Sequestration operations.
  • Knowledge of advanced hydraulic modeling for single and multiphase flow.
  • Experience with pipeline hydraulic simulation software such as OLGA, Pipesim, and NextGen.
