The Director II (Emergency Communications) serves in a senior management role at the top of the department's organizational structure, overseeing the Emergency Communications division within Bernalillo County. This position is responsible for managing and leading lower-level managers and supervisors, ensuring that they implement county policies, procedures, and initiatives effectively. The Director II acts as a mentor to these managers, guiding them in evaluating business operations and identifying any issues that may impact the department's performance. Additionally, this role serves as a liaison to the County Manager's Office, facilitating communication and collaboration between various stakeholders. In this capacity, the Director II provides overall administrative direction for the County's communications programs, projects, services, and facilities, ensuring that they are managed in an effective, efficient, and ethical manner. The Director is tasked with developing, implementing, and enforcing policies and procedures that govern the overall administration of the department. This includes formulating and implementing policies for all sections of the department in compliance with county, state, federal, and other applicable requirements. The Director II coordinates departmental operations with local, state, and national groups, as well as other County departments, to ensure seamless communication and collaboration. A key aspect of this role is providing management and supervision to all Emergency Communications departmental staff, fostering a high-quality workplace environment through leadership and example. The Director is responsible for establishing effective working relationships with all personnel within the organization and advocating for the department's vision, supporting those involved in making that vision a reality. Furthermore, the Director II establishes quality control criteria for communications programs and services, ensuring that they meet the highest standards. Employee supervision responsibilities include hiring selection, training oversight, performance assessment, coaching, and managing disciplinary actions, including termination when necessary.
