About the position

As a dedicated Director of Information Technology within Bank Operations Technology at USAA, you will play a pivotal role in overseeing various technologies that support key functions within Bank Operations and Financial Crimes business partners. This position is crucial for delivering key capabilities within Disputes and influencing the direction for Core Transaction Processing, Financial Crimes, and other specialty areas within Bank Operations. You will be responsible for developing, maintaining, testing, and monitoring an internal control environment, which includes preventative and detective controls to effectively manage risks associated with technology operations. In this leadership role, you will build and oversee a team of employees dedicated to technology support. This includes executing ongoing recruitment, development, retention, coaching, and performance management activities. You will also establish documentation standards and quality assurance methodologies for technology support functions, ensuring adherence to these standards across teams. Your responsibilities will extend to identifying, researching, and analyzing end-to-end business processes and technology support opportunities, as well as developing and overseeing metrics for technology support capabilities and processes, such as KPIs and KRIs. You will create a multi-year plan to operationalize a technology support strategy, complete with key milestones, deliverables, and realization targets. Additionally, you will oversee the creation and execution of departmental budgets and forecasts for applicable technology support functions, ensuring the availability management of technology solutions by applying strong change and incident management practices. Your role will require you to work across multiple functional areas, influencing future business strategies to best utilize available technology support functions. Staying abreast of industry trends is essential, as you will need to ensure that the technology environment is agile enough to adapt quickly to support changing business needs. Building successful stakeholder relationships with other IT and business leaders will be key, as you will act as a trusted advisor, ensuring the cost-effective delivery of technology support services. You may also provide oversight of vendor management activities, including service agreements and technology contracts, while ensuring that risks associated with business activities are effectively identified, measured, monitored, and controlled in accordance with risk and compliance policies and procedures.

Responsibilities

  • Develop, maintain, test, and monitor an internal control environment for technology operations.
  • Build and oversee a team of employees for technology support through recruitment, development, retention, and performance management.

  • Participate in the development of 3rd Party vendor strategies and provide oversight for technology support objectives.
  • Oversee vendor management activities including service agreements and technology contracts.
  • Ensure risks associated with business activities are identified, measured, monitored, and controlled.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree; OR 4 years of related experience may be substituted in lieu of degree.
  • 8 years of experience in a technology function, including 3 years of leadership experience in IT.
  • Experience overseeing the technology life cycle from requirements analysis to support.
  • Technical knowledge of Infrastructure Services, Data, or Application Development.
  • Experience conducting cost benefit analyses to drive technology support solutions.
  • Demonstrated thought leadership in technology support functions and presentation of complex technical details.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks in high-pressure environments and resolve problems early.
  • Experience in driving a culture of quality and accountability in technology support teams.
  • Experience in vendor contract management and managing distributed development teams.
  • Demonstrated financial acumen involving budgets and forecasting.

Nice-to-haves

  • 3+ years managing external suppliers and their technology delivery.
  • Significant experience supporting RFI/RFP processes.
  • 5+ years managing IT delivery staff and budgets.
  • US military experience through service or as a military spouse/domestic partner.
