About the position

The Director of Institutional Marketing at The Juilliard School plays a pivotal role in directing the institution's marketing efforts, focusing on enhancing brand awareness and supporting revenue initiatives that align with Juilliard's mission of providing high-quality arts education. This position is responsible for creating innovative marketing campaigns that resonate with prospective students, patrons, and donors, thereby helping to define Juilliard for a new generation. The director will collaborate closely with various departments, including communications and marketing, to develop creative and cost-effective strategies that effectively share the Juilliard story across multiple platforms, including paid and owned media. In this role, the director will oversee the development and execution of a range of campaigns that support Juilliard's philanthropic efforts, its extensive performance schedule, and other mission-driven initiatives. This includes managing institutional email campaigns, analyzing their performance, and optimizing them for better engagement. The director will also be responsible for supporting fundraising campaigns through creative marketing strategies and data-driven insights. A strong emphasis will be placed on collaboration with artistic departments, box office, and public affairs teams to ensure that marketing efforts are aligned with Juilliard's overall mission and narrative. Responsibilities

  • Create innovative campaigns that help define Juilliard for a new generation of prospective students, patrons, donors, and the public.
  • Use paid and owned media to build awareness for Juilliard's mission.
  • Collaborate with cross-departmental leadership to develop campaign strategies for free and ticketed events, Juilliard Extension, Hire Juilliard Performers, and the Juilliard Store.
  • Work in collaboration with fundraising to support campaign and philanthropic initiatives with creative and data-driven marketing.
  • Ideate, create, and deploy joyful social ad campaigns.
  • Build, test, deploy, and oversee all institutional email campaigns, including monitoring, analyzing, and reporting on email performance.
  • Develop and manage performance season marketing campaigns, leading close collaboration with artistic departments, box office, development, recital operations, media production, and public affairs teams.
  • Support improved analytics management that continuously optimizes our campaigns.
  • Support Search Engine Marketing and implement and manage paid social media campaigns.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree and 8+ years of relevant work experience, including demonstrated experience with marketing, communications, campaign building, and business development.
  • A skilled marketer with a history of creating and managing successful campaigns.
  • Mastery of digital marketing skills, including social, search, and digital ad-buying.
  • Natural collaborator who works seamlessly with colleagues across the organization.
  • Excellent written communication skills, including copywriting and editing.
  • Strong project management and organizational skills; ability to prioritize and address multiple tasks within a fast-paced business environment.
  • Ability to troubleshoot and identify technical issues and communicate effectively with internal constituents and external vendors.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to represent the Juilliard brand well in all aspects of the job.
  • Hands-on experience with CRM, CMS, email, and ticketing platforms such as Eloqua, Campus Solutions (Oracle), Raiser's Edge, & Spektrix.
  • Sharp eye for design and layout; experience in the use of image editing software.
  • Knowledge of basic HTML and CSS helpful.

Nice-to-haves

  • Significant exposure to and/or knowledge of the performing arts or experience working in higher education are preferred.
  • Master's level education is a plus.
