About the position

The Director/Instructor of Massage Therapy at Durham Technical Community College is responsible for overseeing the planning, implementation, direction, supervision, and evaluation of the Massage Therapy program. This role involves teaching various modalities of massage therapy, maintaining student records, managing program budgets, and collaborating with industry partners to ensure the program meets current training needs. The position requires a commitment to teamwork and effective communication within the department and the college.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with employers to assess training needs and develop training programs.
  • Keep the Dean of B&E informed of program activities and maintain relationships with staff, faculty, and local industry.
  • Assess program effectiveness and relevance in the industry.
  • Supervise Massage Therapy faculty and monitor program progress.
  • Meet certification requirements for the North Carolina Board of Massage and Bodywork Therapy.
  • Conduct regular meetings with part-time staff and adjunct faculty.
  • Participate in ongoing B&E directors meetings and chair at scheduled times.
  • Recommend new program initiatives and oversee the development of new programs and courses.
  • Create and manage continuing education programs/classes.
  • Develop strategies to enhance the quality of the Massage Therapy program.
  • Recruit and hire qualified part-time instructors and provide orientation and training.
  • Monitor and verify class rosters and develop semester schedules.
  • Interview prospective students and maintain student records.
  • Order textbooks and materials for the program.
  • Monitor course outlines, syllabi, and program evaluations, providing feedback to instructors.
  • Visit classes to observe and support instruction, maintaining visitation reports.
  • Represent the college and B&E meta-major positively and professionally.
  • Manage program budgets and ensure fiscal responsibility.
  • Build relationships with community partners for donations and training needs.
  • Complete mandatory work-related and professional development training.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in education administration or equivalent.
  • Valid North Carolina Massage Therapist license with the North Carolina Board of Massage and Bodywork Therapy.
  • Five years of experience in training and supervising instructors in a community college setting or equivalent.
