About the position

The Director of Integration and API Development at CVS Health is responsible for leading teams in delivering APIs, integrations, microservices, and middleware-based applications. This role requires a deep technical thinker with extensive experience in API engineering and multi-API platform management. The director will oversee end-to-end API and integration delivery, operationalize new technologies, and drive stability while fostering a positive team culture and achieving ambitious goals.

Responsibilities

• Lead teams in delivering APIs, integrations, microservices, and middleware-based applications.
• Mentor engineering teams to strengthen expertise and encourage innovation.
• Manage day-to-day API development and operational management of multiple Enterprise API Platforms.
• Identify and mitigate risks in collaboration with peers and other leaders.
• Guide work prioritization in alignment with strategic objectives.
• Monitor and optimize performance, identifying enhancement opportunities.
• Build relationships with partners, vendors, teams, and customers.
• Stay updated on industry trends and best practices in middleware and integration technologies.
• Evaluate, select, and manage relationships with external vendors and technology partners.
• Collaborate with IT teams, business units, and stakeholders to provide effective solutions.
• Communicate progress, challenges, and opportunities to senior management.

Requirements

• 10+ years in software engineering end-to-end delivery.
• 10+ years in various integration technologies, microservices, and middleware development.
• 5+ years of experience with various API platforms such as Boomi, IBM APIC, Mulesoft.
• 2+ years of experience with Kong.

Nice-to-haves

• Strong experience in IBM IIB/ACE, Java Microservices, or related technologies such as Oracle SOA.
• Strong understanding of cloud-based technologies (Azure, GCP).
• Health insurance industry experience with a deep understanding of the healthcare value chain.
• Experience delivering in Agile, SAFE, Kanban, and Lean practices.
