About the position

The Director of Integration and API Development at CVS Health is a critical technical leadership role within the Aetna Enterprise Integrations (AEI) organization. This position is responsible for leading teams in the delivery of APIs, integrations, microservices, and middleware-based applications. The ideal candidate will possess extensive experience in API engineering and multi-API platform management, driving transformational changes and delivering innovative solutions. The role emphasizes operationalizing new technologies, strengthening automation and DevOps practices, and ensuring stability in delivery. The Director will also mentor and guide teams, fostering a positive and collaborative culture aligned with CVS Health's Heart At Work Behaviors.

Responsibilities

  • Lead integration practices and end-to-end delivery using various API platforms such as IBM APIC, Kong, and Mulesoft.
  • Mentor the engineering team to enhance expertise and promote a positive culture.
  • Oversee day-to-day API development and manage multiple Enterprise API Platforms from strategy through execution.
  • Identify and mitigate risks in collaboration with peers and other leaders.
  • Guide work prioritization in alignment with strategic objectives.
  • Monitor and optimize performance, addressing issues and bottlenecks.
  • Build relationships with partners, vendors, teams, and customers.
  • Stay updated on industry trends and best practices in middleware and integration technologies.
  • Lead the team in adapting to changes while maintaining focus on objectives.
  • Evaluate and manage relationships with external vendors and technology partners.
  • Collaborate with IT teams, business units, and stakeholders to provide effective solutions.
  • Communicate progress, challenges, and opportunities to senior management and stakeholders.

Requirements

  • 10+ years in software engineering end-to-end delivery.
  • 10+ years in various Integration Technologies, Microservices, and Middleware development.
  • 5+ years of experience with various API platforms such as Boomi, IBM APIC, and Mulesoft.
  • 2+ years of experience with Kong.

Nice-to-haves

  • Strong experience in IBM IIB/ACE, Java Microservices, or related technologies such as Oracle SOA.
  • Strong understanding of cloud-based technologies (Azure, GCP), engineering frameworks, and tools.
  • Health insurance industry experience with a deep understanding of the healthcare value chain.
  • Experience delivering in Agile, SAFE, Kanban, and Lean practices.
