About the position

The position involves overseeing and managing the internal audit department's resources to enhance the effectiveness of the credit union's risk management and control processes. The role includes conducting audits related to Credit Risk and Lending, leading the audit team, and ensuring compliance with relevant regulations. The individual will also be responsible for developing the annual audit plan, managing audit workflows, and providing feedback on audit reports.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct organizational audit risk assessments to develop the annual audit plan for Credit Risk and Lending.
  • Communicate and review results of risk assessments and the annual audit plan with the Supervisory Committee.
  • Oversee and manage daily workflow of senior and staff auditors to maintain the audit schedule.
  • Coordinate quality control activities and regular peer reviews of department processes.
  • Evaluate governance, culture, risk, and control structures and environments.
  • Perform Credit Risk and Lending audits throughout the credit union.
  • Consult with the VP to continuously improve audit processes based on team efficiency and effectiveness.
  • Analyze and prepare the annual team financial budget and submit requests to the VP of Internal Audit.
  • Review work papers prepared by the team for adherence to department procedures and IIA standards.
  • Review internal audit reports prior to issuance for compliance with department procedures and IIA standards.
  • Evaluate new auditing standards, regulations, and accounting pronouncements as applicable.
  • Assist the VP in developing and distributing monthly internal audit status reports to Executive Management, Supervisory Committee, and Board of Directors.
  • Comply with all regulations as required by law, including Bank Secrecy Act, OFAC, FACT Act, GLBA, and others.

Requirements

  • 10+ years of internal audit experience, including at least five years in an internal audit management capacity.
  • Advanced knowledge of industry, markets, and regulations relevant to auditing Credit Risk and Lending processes.
  • Familiarity with regulatory credit risk requirements and application of such guidance.
  • Demonstrated subject matter experience in credit risk management and financial statement analysis.
  • Prior experience with a Big 4 accounting firm preferred.
  • Degree in business, finance, accounting, economics, or a related field; graduate degree preferred.
  • Professional certification such as CIA, CFA, or CPA required.
  • Advanced level skills in Microsoft Office, especially Excel; experience with data analysis required.

Nice-to-haves

  • Knowledge of computer-assisted audit techniques preferred.
  • Understanding of financial institution operations and transactions.
  • Advanced understanding of accounting principles and COSO framework.
  • Advanced understanding of information technology and security risks and controls (including COBIT framework).
