About the position

The Director of Investment Accounting at Guardian Life is responsible for leading projects aimed at enhancing process efficiency, improving financial reporting quality, and overseeing management reporting and net investment income forecasting. This role requires a strong understanding of investment accounting fundamentals and the ability to manage complex tasks while fostering continuous skill development.

Responsibilities

  • Develop continuous process improvement strategy including automation and innovative technology implementation.
  • Participate in the development of the Oracle OAC data warehouse and FAW Dashboards for invested asset data.
  • Direct reporting for all investment-related activities.
  • Collaborate with investment managers for accurate financial reporting.
  • Support preparation and maintenance of investment analysis for Senior Management and the Investments team.
  • Act as a liaison between third-party asset managers and the Guardian investment accounting team.
  • Ensure asset class alignment for AUM billing purposes.
  • Track trade activity and review deviations from SAA with asset managers.
  • Create/model AUM projections for future management fees forecasting.
  • Ensure asset managers align with NII forecast model targets.
  • Monitor asset managers' operations within RBC risk limits.
  • Communicate upcoming contributions and distributions to asset managers.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent in accounting/finance.
  • 10+ years of investment experience.
  • Strong background in Life insurance (STAT & GAAP).
  • CPA or CFA preferred.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to multitask and problem-solve under pressure.
  • Proficiency in MS Office applications, especially Excel, Word, SmartView, and Essbase.
  • Knowledge of insurance industry accounting practices preferred.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with life insurance, annuity products, and/or reinsurance.
  • Broad knowledge of complex investments such as derivatives and structured securities.
  • Ability to build strong business relationships across various stakeholders.
