About the position

The Director of Investment Risk at Ameritas plays a crucial role in managing investment portfolios in alignment with risk appetite and regulatory requirements, while optimizing risk-adjusted returns. This hybrid position involves collaboration with various teams to identify and mitigate risks, conduct risk assessments, and ensure compliance with regulations. The role also includes preparing risk reports for senior management and participating in financial risk study groups.

Responsibilities

  • Identify, analyze, and evaluate various types of risks associated with investment portfolios, including market risk, credit risk, liquidity risk, and operational risk.
  • Work closely with portfolio managers, traders, analysts, and other stakeholders to integrate risk considerations into decision-making processes.
  • Conduct quarterly risk management meetings focusing on current risks and hot topics across all asset classes.
  • Develop and implement risk monitoring tools and methodologies to track and measure portfolio risk exposures.
  • Recommend and implement strategies to mitigate identified risks, including hedging strategies and stress testing.
  • Prepare regular risk reports for senior management and regulatory bodies detailing the current risk profile and recommended actions.
  • Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements and internal policies related to risk management and reporting.
  • Develop additional risk appetite policies as needed.
  • Serve as a liaison between compliance and investment teams to address business needs within the compliance framework.
  • Stay updated on industry trends and risk management best practices to enhance strategies.
  • Participate in ERM financial group and financial risk study group.
  • Contribute to ORSA by completing corporate stress testing and coordinating scenarios with asset managers.
  • Work with accounting teams on investment income projections and budgeting.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in a related field or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • 7-10 years of experience in risk management and/or investment management, preferably in financial services or investment management.
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy in risk assessment and reporting.
  • Experience with quantitative analysis, statistical modeling, and financial instruments.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills for preparing reports and presenting findings.
  • Proven ability to think critically and develop innovative solutions to complex risk management challenges.
  • Familiarity with relevant regulatory frameworks related to investment risk management.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with quantitative analysis and statistical modeling is desired.
  • Familiarity with regulatory frameworks such as NAIC RBC model and S&P capital model is desired.
