About the position

The Director of Portfolio and Project Management at Schwab will lead the delivery of technology projects within the Corporate Functions portfolios, which include Finance, Accounting, Vendor Management, Human Resources, and Corporate Risk. This role emphasizes collaboration across the organization to ensure effective project execution, risk management, and alignment with business objectives, all while fostering a culture of innovation and continuous improvement.

Responsibilities

  • Exercise leadership and execution over the corporate portfolios.
  • Act as a thought partner to project sponsors and clients, collaborating to identify unarticulated needs and improve business benefits.
  • Partner with Portfolio Stakeholders to develop a common understanding of business strategy and product roadmaps.
  • Interpret project resource needs and adjust as required to ensure business outcomes.
  • Develop effective risk mitigation plans and adjust as new risks arise.
  • Drive portfolio planning and manage the intake process for new work.
  • Provide supervision and direction to project teams to ensure successful execution.
  • Ensure quality and evidence of project documentation.
  • Oversee the management of projects to ensure delivery of lean business case outcomes.
  • Manage staff performance by setting clear expectations and providing feedback.
  • Organize teams in value streams and manage strategic demand in the portfolio Kanban.
  • Facilitate discussions on product lifecycle and software spend in the portfolio.
  • Manage and communicate portfolio changes and facilitate trade-off decisions.
  • Provide transparency on forecast demand and actuals for all grow work in the portfolio.
  • Manage third-party portfolio spend to ensure maximum value.
  • Create complete cost transparency across all labor and non-labor costs.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree.
  • 10+ years as a project manager managing multiple large, sophisticated, and cross-functional projects.
  • Strong business, technology, and data acumen.
  • Expert experience in leading programs or projects in a large enterprise environment with multi-million dollar budgets.
  • Ability to communicate tough messages effectively for various stakeholders.

Nice-to-haves

  • 15+ years in technology, preferably in financial services.
  • Experience in scaled agile practices (SAFe).
  • Prior experience in a company's transformation into scaled agile.
  • Strong problem-solving and critical thinking skills.
  • Experience with MS Project, Jira, Confluence, Rally, and SharePoint.
