About the position

The Director IT Solutions-HR Systems is a pivotal leadership role at UNFI, responsible for the long-term design, implementation, and operational support of the Human Resources Management Software and Systems. This position requires a deep understanding of HR business practices, technology transformation, and industry standards. The Director will lead the creation of the Human Capital Management (HCM) technology framework, providing transformational leadership and technical expertise that will advance the organization’s capabilities in HR technology. In this role, the Director will develop, design, and support the creation of HCM applications through collaborative partnerships and the application of industry knowledge. This includes proactively solving chronic problems and leading the development of technology roadmaps. The Director will also be responsible for creating multi-year roadmaps and strategies for Human Resources Systems and technology solutions, including Learning Management, Content Management, and Project Portfolio Management (PPM) systems. A strategic mindset is essential for collaborating with business leaders on the technical feasibility of proposed changes and ensuring proper communication and alignment of capabilities. The Director will also focus on team leadership and management, consulting with and advising leaders on industry standards and best practices that will advance the organization. Building a high-performing team is crucial, which involves developing, attracting, and engaging both existing and new team members to ensure transformational growth. Additionally, the Director will oversee departmental capital and expense budgets for projects, hardware, software, and staffing, ensuring that value is added to the business through cost savings and ROI analyses. Furthermore, the Director will establish and maintain strong working relationships with UNFI business teams, IT vendors, and peers, addressing critical issues and opportunities to achieve organizational goals. This includes managing vendor relationships, understanding their products and services, and aligning them with internal needs. The Director will ensure that appropriate IT vendor contracts are in place and will create RFIs, RFPs, SLAs, and SOWs, processing invoices in alignment with UNFI and IT best practices.

Responsibilities

  • Develop, design, and support the creation of HCM applications through collaborative partnerships.
  • Lead the development of technology roadmaps for HCM solutions.
  • Create multi-year roadmaps and strategies for Human Resources Systems and technology solutions.
  • Collaborate with business leaders on the technical feasibility of proposed changes.
  • Establish metrics to measure stability and KPIs of HCM.
  • Consult and advise leaders on industry standards and best practices.
  • Build and manage a high-performing team to ensure transformational growth.
  • Oversee departmental capital and expense budgets for projects and staffing.
  • Establish and maintain strong working relationships with UNFI business teams and IT vendors.
  • Manage vendor relationships and ensure appropriate IT vendor contracts are in place.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in management information systems, computer science, or related discipline.
  • 8-12 years of relevant IT and leadership experience.
  • 5+ years of relevant Information Technology modern integration and architecture experience.
  • Prior experience delivering modernized HCM technology solutions to HR partners (e.g., Workday, Oracle Cloud, SAP SuccessFactors).
  • Strong understanding of HR, payroll, and finance processes and procedures.
  • Experience with legacy on-premises HR systems (PeopleSoft experience preferred).
  • Experience with Content Management Systems, Learning Management Systems, and PPM Systems.
  • 5+ years of experience working in a product team structure.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong customer focus and ability to work in geographically dispersed teams.
  • Ability to manage concurrent efforts with competing priorities.
  • Ability to create process and process design where none exists.
  • Strategic and creative thinking skills with a proven ability to see future possibilities.
