About the position

The Director - IT Sourcing, Asset Management, and Business Operations at the College of American Pathologists (CAP) is a pivotal role responsible for leading and managing the Sourcing, Asset Management, and Business Operations department within the Information Services (IS) division. This position is crucial for providing operational support services across various IS business areas, including contractor, consultant, and managed services sourcing, vendor management, hardware and software asset management, and IS business and financial operations. The Director will coordinate these areas with other CAP departments, particularly Purchasing and Finance, ensuring effective management of the IS budget across departments. Additionally, the Director will integrate operational management processes into strategic planning and long-term financial modeling, aligning departmental activities with the overall IS strategy. The Director will develop, implement, and operate sourcing and vendor management strategies to ensure CAP receives optimal value from its investments in outside services and procurements. This includes establishing performance measures to track the success of sourcing strategies. The role also involves designing a program for oversight and evaluation of managed service and consulting vendors to ensure that CAP receives the expected value. Furthermore, the Director will maintain asset and license management processes to ensure that IS hardware and software assets are tracked and managed throughout their lifecycle, adhering to licensing requirements. As a member of the IS leadership team, the Director will contribute to the operational, strategic, and fiscal leadership of the IS division. The role requires modeling key behavioral and performance attributes that guide CAP employees, including partnership, respect, accountability, communication, and excellence. The Director will demonstrate a commitment to CAP's mission and values, engage effectively with stakeholders, and ensure high-quality service delivery.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement sourcing and vendor management strategies to optimize CAP's investments in outside services.
  • Design a program for oversight and evaluation of managed service and consulting vendors.
  • Maintain asset and license management processes for IS hardware and software assets.
  • Collaborate with the VP and IS leadership team to drive the development of an integrated enterprise-wide IS Strategic Plan.
  • Plan and manage the design and implementation of technologies to support CAP's business needs.
  • Generate ideas for business-differentiating initiatives.
  • Hire, manage, and develop a team of managers and technical professionals.
  • Manage communications with business stakeholders and external service providers.
  • Oversee systems to track and manage IS assets throughout their lifecycle.
  • Support CAP's portfolio/project management standards and processes.
  • Coordinate the development of capital and operating budgets for the IS division.
  • Identify and resolve disputes involving vendors and service providers.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's or master's degree in computer science, business administration, or a related field; equivalent work experience will be considered.
  • Approximately 10 years of substantive experience in IS management and technical roles.
  • Approximately 5 - 7 years of experience in people and team management roles.
  • Experience managing within a 24 x 7 x 365 operational environment.
  • Strong business acumen and knowledge of industry processes and metrics.
  • Proven people and team management skills in a complex, matrixed environment.
  • Strong vendor management skills and experience managing outsourced services.
