The Communications team at General Motors is dedicated to driving transformation through impactful storytelling. This team encompasses various functions including Employee Engagement, Vehicle Brand, Corporate, Tech & Innovation, and International Communications. As a cohesive unit, we prioritize collaboration and insights, always seeking ways to leverage communications to add value to the enterprise. In the context of a competitive landscape, GM operates in over 60 global markets, and we are currently seeking a Director of Leadership Communications and Operations for GM Global Markets. This role is pivotal in supporting the execution of communications strategies that span the entirety of GM's global markets. The ideal candidate will possess a profound understanding of both internal and external communications landscapes, enabling them to effectively drive change management initiatives and comprehensive communications campaigns. This position requires a strong stakeholder manager who can provide strategic counsel to senior leaders, enhancing their personal brands while ensuring that communications deliver maximum impact for the business. Additionally, the Director will oversee the operations and collaboration across global markets teams, ensuring that processes and tools are effectively launched and maintained. In this role, you will be responsible for developing and executing a comprehensive leadership, corporate, and internal communications strategy for the President of GM Global Markets. This strategy will align with GM's overarching goals and objectives, focusing on internal engagement, social media, and media outreach in global markets. You will partner closely with communications leaders and executives to craft impactful messages that resonate with target audiences, ensuring that organizational initiatives are communicated effectively to employees and stakeholders. As a trusted advisor, you will draft narratives, speeches, presentations, and other communication assets for executive use, while also contributing to high-quality content production for various internal and external channels. Your role will also involve supporting the Communication Strategy & Operations, driving the sharing of best practices, and tracking team performance across global markets.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and execute a comprehensive leadership, corporate and internal communications strategy for the President of GM Global Markets aligned with GM's goals and objectives, focused on internal engagement, social media and global markets media.
  • Partner closely with communications leaders and executives to understand their priorities and craft impactful messages that resonate with target audiences.
  • Ensure organizational initiatives and projects are successfully communicated to employees and stakeholders.
  • Act as a trusted advisor to executives on communications matters.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with stakeholders.
  • Draft narratives, speeches, presentations, taking points, social posts, gold source documents and other comms assets for executive use.
  • Build and leverage external communications networks to clearly communicate company initiatives to external audiences.
  • Contribute to the production of high-quality content for internal and external comms channels, including social media and company website.
  • Support Communication Strategy & Operations, including the development, launch and maintenance of new programs and tools that support the global markets Communications teams.
  • Drive sharing of communications best practice and communications assets with teams across the globe.
  • Support global markets to track team performance.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree
  • 10+ years professional experience in internal and/or external communications.
  • Incredible written and verbal communication skills
  • Experience working with senior executives.
  • Excellent project management skills
  • Tenured experience with large, complex organizational change management and the development and execution of communications strategy with proven results
  • Ability to synthesize complex information into simple communications
  • Ability to see the bigger picture of what needs to be done, remain unflappable under pressure, and stay nimble if change is needed.
