About the position

The Director of the SDPE ML Group at Coupang will lead the strategy and execution of the team focused on enhancing the e-commerce search experience. This role is pivotal in shaping Coupang's Search and Discovery technology, overseeing projects related to search, recommendation, and catalog quality, while also exploring innovative opportunities in Generative AI and LLMs. The position requires collaboration with product engineering teams to drive impactful results that enhance customer satisfaction and business performance.

Responsibilities

• Define the long-term strategy and vision for technical directions in collaboration with the engineering team.
• Manage and execute project plans, ensuring delivery of commitments in both short and long term.
• Lead the development of new Machine Learning models and features, utilizing rigorous testing methodologies.
• Oversee the production systems running the developed models.

Requirements

• 3+ years of management experience.
• Master's degree in Computer Science, Mathematics, or related fields; Ph.D. strongly preferred.
• Proven track record of data analysis to uncover hidden patterns and solve problems using data science.
• Deep knowledge of machine learning, deep learning, and statistical modeling.
• Excellent communication skills for both technical and business audiences.
• Self-motivated learner with a history of launching successful features and improving business metrics.
• Ability to work effectively in a multicultural, cross-functional team.

Nice-to-haves

• Hands-on experience with Generative AI models or LLMs.
• Experience with advertising systems, search advertising, or advertising marketplaces.
• Familiarity with AWS (Amazon Web Services).
• Experience working in startup environments.
