About the position

The Director of Marketing and Communications at Progress Rail is responsible for creating, implementing, and executing a comprehensive business-to-business marketing and internal and external communications strategy specifically for the Rail Division. This role aims to increase sales, establish brand awareness and consistency, and drive employee engagement. The position is based at the corporate headquarters in Albertville, AL, and is part of a larger organization that operates close to 200 global locations. Progress Rail, a Caterpillar company, is an integrated provider of rolling stock and infrastructure, delivering a full range of products and services to both domestic and international railroad customers. The successful candidate will work collaboratively with business unit leaders to understand both short- and long-term strategic goals and priorities, developing a deep understanding of the Rail Division's products and services to implement effective marketing strategies that align with these objectives. Key responsibilities include analyzing market trends and data to identify product and service positioning opportunities, leading marketing strategies, and managing multiple media communications programs to promote the Rail Division's products. The Director will also coordinate employee engagement efforts and develop communication strategies that effectively deliver key messages through various channels, including email, websites, and digital signage. Additionally, the role involves gathering and reporting information on industry, customer, and competitive activities to inform business unit leaders and improve marketing effectiveness through ROI metrics and dashboards. This position requires a strategic thinker with a strong customer focus and the ability to foster relationships across the organization.

Responsibilities

  • Analyze market trends and data to identify product and service positioning opportunities.
  • Collaborate closely with business unit leaders to understand strategic goals and develop marketing strategies.
  • Gather, analyze, and report information on industry, customer, and competitive activities.
  • Lead marketing strategy, trade show and event support, and digital marketing content creation.
  • Manage multiple media communications programs to promote Rail Division's products.
  • Develop the marketing mix across various channels including public relations and social media.
  • Coordinate the company's employee engagement efforts.
  • Develop and implement employee communications strategies to deliver key messages.
  • Develop ROI metrics and dashboards to measure and improve marketing effectiveness.

Requirements

  • 10+ years experience in business-to-business marketing and communications strategy.
  • Knowledge and experience within the rail industry is a plus.
