About the position

Knight Foundation is seeking a creative thinker who can translate complex ideas into impactful stories. Working with the communications team, the Director/Marketing & Creative will identify and engage target audiences both on and offline and help lead the strategic development and creation of creative campaigns to support the impact of our grantmaking and research. The right candidate thrives in a fast-paced environment and loves the challenge of creating engaging and innovative content. This role is pivotal in advancing the foundation's mission to foster informed and engaged communities, which are essential for a healthy democracy. The Director will be responsible for overseeing various marketing initiatives that drive awareness and impact of the foundation's program investments and research, ensuring that all creative outputs align with the foundation's brand and mission. The Director will collaborate closely with the Director of Communications to maximize earned and paid media coverage strategies, ensuring that the foundation's message reaches the intended audiences effectively. Additionally, the role involves partnering with program staff to develop creative strategies for large-scale hybrid events and programs, shaping and directing social media strategy, paid ads, web design/development, and email marketing. The Director will oversee the development of various content types, including videos, infographics, podcasts, publications, and reports, broadening the reach of Knight Foundation content. Furthermore, the position requires sourcing, selecting, and managing a team of vendor partners to ensure the quality and pace of the work meets the foundation's standards.

Responsibilities

  • Advance marketing campaigns that drive awareness and impact of the foundation's program investments and research.
  • Collaborate with the Director/Communications to help maximize our earned and paid media coverage strategies.
  • Partner with program staff to develop creative strategies for large-scale hybrid events and programs.
  • Shape and direct social media strategy, paid ads, web design/development and email marketing.
  • Oversee the development of videos, infographics, podcasts, publications, reports and other assets that broaden the reach of Knight Foundation content.
  • Ensure creative and brand alignment across various franchise efforts.
  • Source, select and manage a team of vendor partners to drive the quality and pace of the work.

Requirements

  • A wide-ranging portfolio managing and executing creative storytelling concepts, marketing campaigns and events.
  • A high-level understanding of PR, digital strategy, UX, web development and social media content creation.
  • Eight or more years of experience in marketing and communications work.
  • Event design and project management experience.
  • Strong writing skills.
  • An understanding of data analysis, visualization and media metrics expertise.
  • Sound judgment and a readiness to be held accountable.
  • Belief in Knight Foundation's mission.
