About the position

The Director, Marketing & Research position at the Northern California Golf Association (NCGA) is a pivotal role responsible for enhancing member engagement and awareness of the association's benefits and events. This position requires a strategic thinker who can develop comprehensive marketing strategies and plans that drive member participation and satisfaction. The NCGA, founded in 1901, is the largest allied golf association in the United States, serving approximately 200,000 members across more than 1,300 clubs in Northern California. The organization is committed to making golf vibrant, inclusive, and accessible, and this role plays a crucial part in achieving that vision. In this role, the Director will oversee the development of resources and programming for clubs, ensuring high levels of growth and engagement. The position also involves leading the overall research program to track member and club satisfaction, identifying key insights that can drive innovative programming and communications. Responsibilities include managing membership and club development, overseeing the club representative program, and executing annual retention drives and marketing campaigns. The Director will also be responsible for advertising and sponsorship development, as well as revenue management. The Director will supervise a team of three, providing guidance and support while collaborating with other NCGA staff to achieve organizational goals. This role requires a strong understanding of marketing principles, project management, and consumer research, as well as the ability to analyze data to inform strategic decisions. The successful candidate will be expected to lead member communications, ensuring that members are informed and engaged with the NCGA's offerings, including publications and digital content.

Responsibilities

  • Develop strategy and lead execution of all marketing campaigns, including benefits awareness and renewal drives.
  • Supervise the Growth team, managing HR functions such as recruiting, hiring, and performance management.
  • Track membership trends and make recommendations for growth of the NCGA membership base.
  • Lead member communications to keep members informed about NCGA benefits and events.
  • Oversee website strategy related to member and club officer engagement tools and resources.
  • Ensure clubs are informed about critical information for running clubs and attracting members.
  • Manage the Club Representative program, including newsletters and training webinars.
  • Ensure robust onboarding for new clubs with appropriate resources.
  • Maintain clear brand positioning and standards for communications.
  • Oversee advertising and sponsorship partnerships and revenue management.
  • Conduct member and club research to track insights and satisfaction trends, making recommendations for improvements.
  • Review marketing effectiveness to develop best practices and future plans.
  • Support safe work habits and a safe working environment.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Business with a concentration in Marketing.
  • 7+ years of professional marketing leadership experience in B2C or association management.
  • Strong marketing, strategic thinking, project management, and consumer research skills.
  • Ability to develop effective business strategies based on data and intuition.
  • Experience managing budgets and strengthening a brand.
  • Experience supervising and mentoring a team to achieve organizational goals.
  • Proven track record of implementing successful marketing campaigns.
  • Superior project management and communication skills.
  • Ability to analyze and integrate processes and information to deliver new solutions.
  • Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office suite, Google Drive suite, CRM, website management, and SEO.
  • Valid US Driver's License.
