About the position

The Director of Medical/Surgical is responsible for overseeing the nursing department's operations, ensuring high-quality patient care, and implementing hospital policies and procedures. This role involves personnel management, resource allocation, and service development to address existing and potential issues in patient care. The director also advocates for patients' well-being and demonstrates leadership and clinical competence in nursing practice.

Responsibilities

  • Implement the philosophy, goals, policies, and procedures of the hospital and nursing department.
  • Ensure consistent high-quality patient care in the medical/surgical department.
  • Identify existing and potential problems and implement appropriate solutions.
  • Document patient care and interventions provided.
  • Monitor, document, and communicate patient status and reactions to interventions to physicians, patients, and families.
  • Advocate for the physical and emotional well-being of patients.
  • Demonstrate clinical competence in relevant nursing practice areas.
  • Assist in the development, implementation, and evaluation of ongoing service programs for quality nursing and patient care.
  • Monitor and maintain unit compliance with regulatory and hospital policies.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Nursing required.
  • Valid licensure in the State of Georgia as a Registered Nurse (RN).
  • Five years of hospital-based patient care experience as a Registered Nurse (RN).
  • Two years of charge/staff nursing experience required.
  • Critical thinking skills and decisive judgment are necessary.
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision and in a stressful environment.
