About the position

The Director of Middleware & Cloud Platform Engineering is a pivotal role at Santander, responsible for the design, development, implementation, and ongoing updates of the Middleware platforms in alignment with both company and regulatory requirements. This position entails a comprehensive evaluation of development projects, including scheduling and resource allocation, to ensure that the software development teams' needs are met effectively. The Director will oversee the building, testing, and maintenance of middleware platforms, while also preparing necessary systems documentation. This role requires executing technical plans, conducting system analysis, and creating detailed design specifications, all while navigating the ARB approval process. The Director will also be responsible for development, unit, and component testing, collaborating closely with cross-functional teams to implement complex projects successfully. In this leadership position, the Director will manage the roadmap for implementing new features for the Enterprise middleware platforms. They will author and drive feature specifications in collaboration with the dedicated Engineering team, ensuring that the customer journey and user experience are defined and enhanced through partnership with creative staff to deliver exceptional designs. Leading a team of architects, senior platform engineers, and domain subject matter experts (SMEs), the Director will leverage agile methodologies to deliver a regulatory-compliant middleware platform that meets the evolving needs of the business.

Responsibilities

  • Manages the Roadmap for implementing new features for the Enterprise middleware platforms.
  • Authors and drives feature specifications with the dedicated Engineering team.
  • Defines the customer journey and user experience and partners with creative staff to deliver amazing designs.
  • Leads a team of architects, senior platform engineers, and domain SMEs to deliver a regulatory-compliant middleware platform leveraging agile methodology.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree or equivalent work experience.
  • 9+ years of Middleware Engineering Management, Software Development Team Management, and/or Application Portfolio Management experience.
  • Proven track record managing large, complex software development/integration projects in both host and distributed environments.
  • Deep technical expertise in managing large middleware platforms including Confluent Kafka, IBM API Connect, Mulesoft, OpenShift & Kubernetes container platforms, and automating Springboot microservices deployments using Github Actions.
  • Knowledge of AWS Cloud platform and its native services including EC2, ECS, EKS, S3.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of external competition, industry, and/or market trends in relation to own business.
  • Demonstrated understanding of IT Service Management concepts and procedures.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of the latest technology innovations and their applicability to business operations.
  • Demonstrated relationship management and leadership skills with the ability to influence and negotiate with all levels of management.
  • Proactive team player with effective time management skills; ability to work independently, manage multiple deadlines/projects, and keep key players informed.
