About the position

The Director of Multiplatform Communications and Special Projects at George Mason University is responsible for leading a small team in producing engaging digital content, including podcasts and videos, to enhance the university's branding and communication efforts. This role involves strategic planning, collaboration across various teams, and managing the production of the President's podcast, 'Access to Excellence.' The director will ensure that all content aligns with the university's narrative and engages key stakeholders effectively.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and manage a digital communications video and podcast strategy for OUB.
  • Collaborate to produce the President's 'Access to Excellence' podcast, including maintaining editorial calendars and scheduling guests.
  • Lead the development of digital communications content, including social and short-form videos.
  • Write story treatments and conduct pre-interviews and site visits for content creation.
  • Work with the Creative team on titles and graphic elements for digital content.
  • Ensure timely and optimized web publishing of content across platforms.
  • Collaborate with various teams to ensure a consistent pipeline of engaging videos and audio stories.
  • Ensure all news content aligns with the university's branding and editorial standards.
  • Provide guidance to team members in video and audio story development.
  • Participate in audience behavior analysis to inform content decisions.

Requirements

  • College degree or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • 8-10 years of experience in journalism, digital media, or communications, ideally in a news or academic setting.
  • Proven ability to manage a small team and engage employees across units.
  • Strong project management skills, including planning and coordinating multiple projects.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills for stakeholder engagement.
  • Demonstrated ability to craft compelling narratives for diverse audiences.
  • Strong editorial judgment to align content with branding and messaging.
  • Extensive experience in producing digital news and podcast content across platforms.
  • Proven skills in writing, editing, and overseeing pre- and post-production processes.
  • Experience in analyzing audience engagement metrics.
