About the position

The Director of New Sales at American Express is responsible for leading a team focused on selling Business Line of Credit (BLOC) to small and medium-sized businesses. This role involves hiring and developing talent, ensuring sales performance, maintaining compliance, and fostering a diverse and inclusive team culture. The director will also create data-driven strategies to enhance sales and customer service while collaborating with cross-functional partners.

Responsibilities

  • Hire and onboard top talent to build a strong team and support team development through regular coaching sessions and team huddles.
  • Lead, mentor, motivate, and develop a team of 6 tele-based Managers of Business Development (MBD) focused on selling Business Line of Credit (BLOC).
  • Ensure Business Line of Credit (BLOC) sales performance results are achieved quarterly/annually, adhering to internal governance and compliance standards.
  • Create and maintain a strong culture of adherence to Compliance and regulatory guidelines to support and protect the Blue Box and our customers.
  • Develop exceptional relationships with cross-functional partners and stakeholders across Business Blueprint, advocating for Blueprint Sales, the customer, and our colleagues.
  • Understand the competitive commercial landscape and market trends, and how our products and strategies need to evolve to ensure marketplace advantage.
  • Create data-driven strategies which position team and organization for success.
  • Work with internal teams on behalf of clients to ensure the highest level of customer service.
  • Build a diverse and inclusive team, creating a space for colleagues with different experiences and viewpoints to have a voice.
  • Demonstrate exceptional leadership attributes including inclusivity, integrity, enterprise thinking, and clear communication.

Requirements

  • 3+ years of people leadership experience, preferably leading teams of 5+ in a sales, account management, or operations environment.
  • 5+ years of experience in the financial services industry, or similar highly-regulated industry.
  • 3+ years of sales experience selling to SMBs preferred.
  • Financial fluency and familiarity with small business cashflow needs and cycles.
  • History of consistently exceeding goals in a compliant and ethical manner.
  • Proven ability to inspire through consultative coaching, development planning, recognition, and accountability.
  • Strong record of building diverse and inclusive teams, developing unified processes and procedures, and creating & executing on high-level strategies.
  • Record of leading through trust, transparency, integrity, and collaboration to build highly engaged and compliance-focused teams.
  • Ability to be detail-oriented while maintaining a big-picture perspective, and strong follow-up skills.
  • Salesforce reporting experience a plus.
  • Bachelor's degree in business or related field preferred.
