About the position

The Director of NJY Teen Camp is a year-round professional responsible for overseeing all programmatic and operational aspects of the Teen Camp program, which serves over 150 campers and employs 20-30 seasonal staff members. This role involves camper recruitment, staff hiring, program design, and implementation, as well as collaboration with agency-wide personnel for logistical planning and facility management. The Director will also spend part of the summer on-site in Milford, PA, and supervise a travel experience, ensuring a positive camp culture and effective communication with families and NJY Executive leadership.

Responsibilities

  • Foster deep relationships with families and communicate camp offerings.
  • Host evening info-sessions to update families on trips and camp offerings.
  • Navigate scholarship requests as part of a scholarship committee.
  • Respond to parent inquiries via phone and email in a timely manner.
  • Participate in camp-specific and agency recruitment events.
  • Work with supervisors to create a Teen Camp supervision structure.
  • Hire a staff team of 20-30 counselors and seasonal supervisors.
  • Manage administrative tasks of job postings, interviews, and communications.
  • Develop the orientation schedule and onboarding process for all staff.
  • Collaboratively build and institute policies, procedures, and practices to define camp's culture.
  • Inform Teen Camp's broad programmatic vision and communicate it to staff and stakeholders.
  • Oversee day-to-day delivery of programs and mobilize staff effectively.
  • Build a robust schedule of special programming including day trips and guest speakers.
  • Coordinate with personnel on food, medical, facility, and operational needs.
  • Work closely with travel providers on planning and delivery of travel programs.
  • Become adept with CampMinder database functions.
  • Collaborate with NJY Camps' Israeli partnership on integrated camp programs.
  • Inform marketing strategy to include social media and outbound communications.
  • Manage relationships with various stakeholders including partners and families.
  • Oversee delivery of staff orientation week schedule and provide ongoing coaching to staff.
  • Serve as primary contact for camper and staff concerns relating to discipline and health.
  • Navigate travel-related challenges, coordinating with families and trip providers.

Requirements

  • 4-6 years of relevant professional experience.
  • Experience in a full-time or seasonal camp leadership capacity.
  • Proven track record of managing diverse relationships.
  • Aptitude for camp management including recruitment, marketing, and program development.
  • Experience working independently in a flexible work environment.
