About the position

The Director of Accounting & Finance is a pivotal role within our local non-profit organization, responsible for overseeing the full accounting and finance functions. This position ensures that all financial operations are conducted with timeliness, accuracy, and compliance with relevant regulations. The Director will be an integral part of the Finance Committee and will report directly to the Executive Director. The ideal candidate will possess a passion for the arts and will thrive in a dynamic environment that requires strategic planning and creative problem-solving skills. This role also involves building and leading a team, fostering a collaborative atmosphere that encourages professional growth and development. In this hybrid position, the Director will be required to work onsite in Portland, Oregon, for 3-4 days a week. Key responsibilities include performing project-based budgeting and revenue recognition functions, developing policies and internal controls that align with the organization's departmental budgets, strategies, and goals, and assessing systems and processes for continuous improvements and efficiencies. The Director will also be responsible for ad-hoc financial reporting, analysis, budgeting, planning, and risk management, ensuring that the organization remains financially healthy and compliant with all regulations.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee the full accounting and finance functions for a non-profit organization, ensuring timeliness, accuracy, and compliance.
  • Perform project-based budgeting and revenue recognition functions.
  • Develop policies and internal controls to ensure alignment with the organization's departmental budgets, strategies, and goals.
  • Assess systems and processes for continuous improvements and efficiencies.
  • Conduct ad-hoc financial reporting, analysis, budgeting, planning, and risk management.

Requirements

  • Must have prior accounting experience within a Non-Profit organization.
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business, or related field.
  • 8+ years of progressive accounting and finance experience including supervisory/leadership responsibility.
  • Proficiency with ERP systems and strong Excel skills.
  • Strong leadership and interpersonal skills with the ability to interact at all levels of the organization.
  • Analytical mindset with strong problem solving and decision-making abilities.
  • Deadline-driven with the ability to effectively manage competing tasks and priorities.
