About the position

The Director of Accounting Operations will be responsible for overseeing the accounting operations of our Orlando business unit. This role includes managing the accounting department, ensuring compliance with financial regulations, and providing transparent financial reporting to support the company's objectives. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in manufacturing accounting as a U.S. Government contractor, excellent leadership skills, and a keen eye for detail. In this position, the Director will manage actual indirect rates within the MRP/ERP system, prepare variance analysis against provisional rates, and oversee appropriate project setups in Deltek Costpoint for customer contracts and internal projects. The role also involves coordinating the Accounts Receivable process to ensure timely and accurate billings to customers, as well as the Accounts Payable process with the Corporate shared service team to ensure timely and accurate payments to bona fide vendors. Additionally, the Director will coordinate with Human Resources and Payroll to ensure timely and accurate reporting of labor costs and related withholdings. The Director will manage the monthly financial close process and timeline, including the final review and posting of journal entries, analysis of P&L variance reports, and publication of monthly results and statistical data via Comtech's consolidation tool, OneStream. They will also manage the balance sheet, ensuring all key accounts are reconciled, analyzed, and accurately maintained. Furthermore, the Director will document and apply revenue recognition methodologies for customer contracts in compliance with ASC 606, ensuring compliance with policies and procedures and timely review of project-level information to ensure accurate reporting of revenue and cost recognition. In terms of internal control, compliance, and audit, the Director will develop and maintain an effective overall internal control environment, supporting Comtech's entity-wide compliance with Sarbanes-Oxley (SOX) requirements. They will ensure compliance with all financial regulations, including Federal Acquisition Regulations (FAR), tax laws, and reporting requirements, and coordinate with Comtech's Compliance Officer and internal, external, and DCAA auditors to support audits and analyze and remediate identified control deficiencies. As a team leader, the Director will manage and mentor the accounting team, fostering a collaborative and high-performance culture. They will conduct performance evaluations, provide professional development opportunities, and support career growth while collaborating with other departments to support overall company objectives.

Responsibilities

  • Manage relationship with internal and external auditors, including preparation of quarterly analysis and responding to auditor inquiries
  • Manage and mentor the accounting team, fostering a collaborative and high-performance culture
  • Conduct performance evaluations and provide professional development opportunities
  • Collaborate with other departments to support overall company objectives

Requirements

  • Experience in the manufacturing industry, preferably in aerospace or space systems manufacturing
  • Strong knowledge of GAAP, financial reporting, and Federal Acquisition Regulations (FAR)
  • Proficient in financial software and ERP systems, preferably Deltek Costpoint
  • Strong advanced Microsoft Office and analytical skills, including financial modeling and analysis
  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills
  • Ability to effectively communicate and collaborate with all members and levels of management
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, dynamic environment
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting; CPA preferred
  • Minimum of 10-15 years of progressive accounting and finance experience, with at least 3 years in a leadership role
