About the position

The Director of Accounting will oversee a team of approximately 15 accounting professionals, manage financial operations, and lead change initiatives within the healthcare industry. This long-term contract position requires strong leadership and expertise in accounting processes, particularly in accounts payable and receivable, auditing, and budget management.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee the Accounting Manager, three accountants, and the AP/Purchasing team.
  • Handle the accounts payable (AP) processes, which are currently manual and paper-driven.
  • Supervise the implementation of Workday and other changes aimed at improving processes.
  • Manage the handling of grants, especially those related to health research work.
  • Oversee all financial operations, including accounts receivable (AR), auditing, and budget processes.
  • Handle resistance to change among team members and drive change management initiatives.
  • Ensure accurate processing of customer credit applications and maintenance of customer credit records.
  • Monitor customer accounts and take necessary actions based on account status.
  • Provide hands-on leadership during periods of transition and restructuring.

Requirements

  • Proficiency in Accounts Payable (AP) and Accounts Receivable (AR) processes.
  • Extensive experience in auditing and budget processes.
  • Proficiency in using Workday for financial management tasks.
  • Demonstrated ability in change management.
  • Experience in grant accounting.
  • A minimum of a bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
  • Certified Public Accountant (CPA) designation is highly desirable.
  • Strong leadership and team management skills.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, especially Excel.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines.
  • Demonstrated ability to handle confidential information with discretion.
  • Proven track record of improving financial processes and systems within an organization.
