About the position

The Director of Administrative Operations plays a crucial role in providing high-level administrative support to the Chief Medical Officer and the Department of Medical Administration at Cook County Health. This position is responsible for overseeing key medical administration processes, driving continuous improvement, and ensuring efficient operations across clinical departments. The director will lead efforts to cultivate a supportive practice culture, enhance staff engagement, and promote professional growth while ensuring compliance with medical governance standards.

Responsibilities

  • Provide high-level administrative support to the Chief Medical Officer and clinical departments.
  • Own and maintain key Medical Administration processes, forms, and tools.
  • Drive continuous improvement through collaboration with stakeholders.
  • Support medical governance and compliance activities.
  • Cultivate a supportive practice culture that strengthens physician leaders and engages staff.
  • Direct daily administrative functions of the Department's clinical operations, including budget and human resource processes.
  • Supervise and train medical administrative support staff.
  • Manage time and attendance for the CMO's direct reports.
  • Oversee hiring processes for credentialed providers.
  • Act as a liaison between Medical Administration and other departments.
  • Collect and analyze information for executive summaries and reports.
  • Assist with the development and tracking of strategic planning initiatives.

Requirements

  • Master's degree from an accredited college or university with three years of direct healthcare experience working for an executive leader or department head, or a Bachelor's degree with five years of experience.
  • Three or more years of experience supervising, managing, and/or directing staff.
  • Experience with consolidating budgets for multiple departments and regulatory standards.
  • Intermediate proficiency with Microsoft Office.
