About the position

The Admissions Director at Bard High School Early College (BHSEC) Queens will play a pivotal role in supporting all aspects of outreach and student recruitment. This position is essential for ensuring that the school meets its enrollment goals and serves a diverse student body. The Director will be responsible for conducting outreach to students, families, schools, and youth-serving organizations through various channels, including high school fairs, school visits, and social media. This outreach is crucial for building relationships and promoting the unique educational opportunities offered by BHSEC Queens. In addition to outreach, the Admissions Director will plan and manage admissions events such as open houses, new student orientations, and summer bridge programming. A key responsibility will be to ensure that the school meets its target of offering 73% of admissions to students who qualify for free lunch, reflecting the school's commitment to serving underrepresented communities. The Director will also serve as a liaison to middle schools and community organizations, fostering partnerships that enhance recruitment efforts. The role involves reviewing admissions applications and assessments, coordinating with staff and faculty to process and grade these assessments, and managing student enrollment data. The Admissions Director will recruit and train student ambassadors to assist with the admissions process, ensuring that prospective students have a positive experience. Additionally, the Director will need to become well-acquainted with the New York City Department of Education (NYCDOE) application process and represent the school's strategic priorities to key organizational partners, including foundations and policymakers. This position may also involve supporting other aspects of school planning as needed, making it a dynamic and integral role within the BHSEC community.

Responsibilities

Requirements

  • B.A. degree (required).
  • Experience working with students.
  • Strong interpersonal and organizational skills.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills.
  • Familiarity with the education landscape in New York City (preferred).
  • Facility with Microsoft Word, Excel, and other basic office software.
