About the position

The Director of Aggregate Operations at Summit Materials is a pivotal role responsible for leading and optimizing aggregates production operations. This includes overseeing quarry operations, ensuring safety protocols are adhered to, managing product inventory, and coordinating distribution logistics. The position reports directly to the Senior Vice President of Aggregates for the West Region and plays a critical role in driving operational efficiency while fostering a culture of safety and continuous improvement. The successful candidate will be tasked with developing high-performing teams to meet business objectives and will be expected to implement best practices across all operations. In this role, the Director will promote a culture of safety, accountability, and continuous improvement by conducting regular safety audits and providing ongoing training and development opportunities for team members. Strategic leadership will be required to manage all aspects of aggregates production, ensuring seamless integration with parallel business units such as Ready Mix, Trucking, and Construction. The Director will also be responsible for developing and executing operational strategies that enhance productivity, minimize costs, and maximize profitability while maintaining high safety and quality standards. The position requires oversight of both short-term and long-term production plans to meet customer demand and achieve business targets. Continuous improvement initiatives will be a key focus, aimed at optimizing equipment utilization and streamlining production processes. Compliance with regulatory requirements and environmental standards is essential, as is the development of area managers and site leaders to create a high-performing team. The ideal candidate will possess a strong understanding of aggregates production processes and a proven track record in leadership and operational excellence.

Responsibilities

  • Foster a culture of safety, accountability, and continuous improvement by promoting best practices and conducting regular safety audits.
  • Provide strategic leadership and direction for all aspects of aggregates production, including quarry operations and safety protocols.
  • Collaborate closely with parallel business units to ensure seamless integration of aggregates production processes.
  • Develop and implement operational strategies and best practices to enhance productivity and maximize profitability.
  • Oversee the development and execution of short-term and long-term production plans to meet customer demand projections.
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives to optimize equipment utilization and streamline production processes.
  • Ensure compliance with all regulatory requirements, environmental standards, and safety regulations governing aggregates production operations.
  • Lead and develop area managers in supporting and guiding a high-performing team of site leaders and operators.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Mining Engineering, Civil Engineering, Business Administration, or related field; Master's degree preferred.
  • Minimum of 7-10 years of experience in aggregates production, quarry operations, or related field.
  • Strong understanding of aggregates production processes, equipment, and industry best practices.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop and execute strategic plans and manage complex projects.
  • Excellent communication, leadership, and interpersonal skills.
  • Proficiency in financial analysis, budgeting, and cost management.
