About the position

The Director of Athletic Bands at Cumberland University is a pivotal role responsible for the leadership and organization of the CU Marching Band program. This position encompasses a wide range of responsibilities, including the recruitment of prospective students, planning, and providing instruction and assessment during team rehearsals. The Director plays a crucial role in preparing the band for performances at athletic competitions and various campus events. Additionally, the role involves budget maintenance, equipment procurement, scheduling, and travel arrangements. Engaging with students to support their academic success, retention, and eventual graduation from the University is also a key aspect of this position. The Director of Athletic Bands must possess strong organizational and communication skills, both written and verbal, as well as excellent interpersonal abilities and attention to detail. The ability to effectively recruit and retain Marching Band members is essential, as is the capacity to teach music to a diverse group of students. The Director will also manage the Assistant Marching Band Director and Graduate Assistant, oversee the roster, and handle the scholarship budget. This role requires a commitment to fostering a positive and productive environment for all band members, ensuring that they are well-prepared for their performances and academic endeavors.

Responsibilities

Requirements

  • 0-3 years of experience in Marching Band.
