About the position

The Director of Athletic Communications at the University of South Carolina Upstate is responsible for enhancing the visibility of the university's athletics department, student-athletes, and coaches. This role involves managing communications for assigned sports, producing various media content, and leading public relations strategies to support the university's mission and vision.

Responsibilities

• Manage administrative duties within the Communications Office, including overseeing a team of 15-20 student workers.
• Write and produce press releases, game notes, feature stories, and social media content for assigned sports.
• Maintain the Athletics website, ensuring relevant content is written and posted, including biographical sketches and feature stories.
• Create graphics for the departmental website and social media, and edit highlight clips for various platforms.
• Maintain season and historical statistics for assigned sports and supervise statistical crews during home games.
• Collaborate with the Director of Video Services and Digital Strategy for video shoots and promotional media days.
• Lead the public relations strategy for assigned programs, serving as the primary contact for information and opportunities.
• Design and produce social media content for all assigned sports and the athletic department.
• Perform other duties as assigned by the Senior Associate AD for External Operations.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in a relevant field.
• 2 or more years of experience in sports information, media relations, or athletic communications, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Good driving record and valid driver's license.

Nice-to-haves

• Experience as a lead communications representative for two or more programs.
