About the position

The Director of Athletic Communications at Newberry College is responsible for leading and managing the athletics communication staff for a 24-sport department. This role involves ensuring compliance with NCAA and SAC regulations, promoting the college's mission, and overseeing all aspects of athletic communications, including media relations, content creation, and event management.

Responsibilities

  • Create and direct a professional live video streaming product for all home events distributed by FloSports.
  • Oversee all equipment maintenance, staffing, script planning, graphics, corporate integrations, and in-broadcast feature videos.
  • Act as the primary technology contact for all events hosted by Newberry College Athletics.
  • Set up, manage, coordinate, and troubleshoot audio-visual equipment for live streaming events.
  • Plan and execute media days for all 26 teams, including headshots and team pictures.
  • Hire, train, and supervise a staff of three athletics communications graduate assistants and multiple students.
  • Create an atmosphere that emphasizes the student-athlete experience.
  • Serve as a key member of the athletics administrative team.
  • Direct public relations efforts and communications services for the athletics department.
  • Foster positive relationships with coaching staff and student-athletes.
  • Create and produce print and virtual content including fact books, game notes, press releases, social media content, and graphics.
  • Update the college's athletics website with creative and essential content.
  • Manage home event operations and essential staff.
  • Update social media platforms, including Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram.
  • Serve as the primary contact for specific Newberry College programs while aiding in the coverage of other in-season teams.
  • Coordinate Wolfies end-of-the-year awards banquet.
  • Manage multiple tasks with attention to detail.
  • Complete assigned projects for the athletics department.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Director of Athletics.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in a relevant field.
  • Previous collegiate media relations experience.
  • Experience with StatCrew, Genius Sports, and Adobe Suite (InDesign, Photoshop, Lightroom, etc.).
  • Strong organizational, creative, and team-building skills.
  • Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
  • Proficiency with Adobe Creative Suite focusing on Adobe Premiere Pro, After Effects, and Photoshop.
  • Experience with Production Truck/OBS software.
