About the position

The Director of Athletic Performance at the University of Iowa is responsible for managing and administering all aspects of a competitive Division I sports performance program. This role focuses on recruiting, retaining, and graduating high-caliber student-athletes while ensuring their satisfaction and success in competition within the Big Ten Conference. The position emphasizes maintaining high ethical standards within the program and its staff.

Responsibilities

  • Manage and administer all phases of a competitive Division I sports performance program.
  • Recruit, retain, and graduate high caliber student-athletes with a high level of satisfaction.
  • Ensure successful competition within the Big Ten Conference.
  • Maintain a program and staff that demonstrates high ethical standards.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree (or international equivalent).
  • CSCCa Strength and Conditioning Coach Certified (SCCC) or NSCA Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist (CSCS).
  • Minimum of five years working experience as a strength and conditioning coach of collegiate student-athletes.
  • Experience in designing speed, strength, and conditioning programs in a progressive manner.
  • Experience executing the rehabilitative phase of injury recovery.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills, demonstrated through public speaking engagements and clinician experience.
  • Professional experience working effectively with individuals from diverse backgrounds, demonstrating strong interpersonal skills.
  • Demonstrated experience in performance management, including teaching and supervising small and large groups of student-athletes.
  • Proficiency in basic office support software (word processing, email, spreadsheets).
  • A valid U.S. driving license and ability to meet University of Iowa Driving Policy standards.

Nice-to-haves

  • Higher education coursework in a related field.
  • Coaching experience with NCAA Division I strength and conditioning processes.
  • Knowledge of functional movement screening tools and implementing corrective exercise.
  • Genuine passion for supporting the holistic development of student-athletes.
