About the position

The Director of Attorney Recruitment and Development at Hinshaw & Culbertson LLP is a pivotal role responsible for overseeing all aspects of attorney recruitment and development within the firm. This position collaborates closely with senior leadership and various committees to align recruitment strategies with the firm's strategic growth objectives. The Director will manage a team of three and will be involved in lateral hiring, associate evaluations, and the development of professional training programs, all while promoting diversity and inclusion within the recruitment process.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee the recruitment staff and manage all aspects of lateral partner, associate, and summer associate hiring.
  • Design and implement comprehensive lateral recruitment strategies aligned with the firm's growth objectives.
  • Initiate and maintain proactive engagement with prospective candidates to build a robust talent pipeline.
  • Conduct market analysis to identify and target premier candidates for lateral partner roles.
  • Collaborate with firm leadership to identify potential growth sectors and present opportunities for strategic consideration.
  • Orchestrate the comprehensive lateral recruitment process, ensuring a seamless experience for candidates.
  • Champion the firm's value proposition to attract lateral candidates by highlighting strengths and opportunities.
  • Engage with Practice Group Leaders to understand lateral hiring requirements and assist in strategic initiatives.
  • Contribute to the development of marketing and recruitment materials that showcase the firm's unique attributes.
  • Collaborate with the DEI Office to build a diverse attorney pipeline and support diversity initiatives.
  • Oversee administrative aspects of lateral partner hiring, ensuring compliance with firm policies.
  • Facilitate attorney orientation and oversee the onboarding of new joiners.
  • Manage general recruiting administration, including applicant tracking and hiring statistics.
  • Meet regularly with recruiting staff for updates on hiring processes and provide strategic direction.
  • Direct the firmwide associate compensation and bonus programs to ensure competitive practices.
  • Support the design and implementation of partner integration plans and professional development programs.

Requirements

  • Over 10 years of professional attorney recruitment experience including lateral associates and partners.
  • Minimum four years of professional development experience organizing training for attorneys.
  • Minimum five years in a supervisory role with the ability to grow and manage a team.
  • Strong oral and written communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Excellent analytical and creative problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to meet deadlines while handling multiple priorities and work well under pressure.
  • Technology skills including knowledge of applicant tracking systems and proficiency in Microsoft Office.

Nice-to-haves

  • Juris Doctor degree is a plus.
