About the position

The Amarillo Sod Poodles are seeking a dynamic and forward-thinking individual for the role of Director of Baseball Communications. This position is responsible for shaping public narratives through effective communication strategies, managing media relations, and enhancing the team's brand image. The ideal candidate will collaborate with various stakeholders, oversee the production of baseball information, and provide strategic communication support to team executives, players, and coaches.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement comprehensive communication strategies that align with baseball and business operations goals.
  • Lead the production of high-quality baseball information, including game notes, press releases, and media guides.
  • Collaborate with team communications leaders to develop key messages and story opportunities.
  • Serve as the day-to-day lead for media and content requests involving uniformed personnel.
  • Act as the primary point of contact for media inquiries, ensuring timely and accurate responses.
  • Provide strategic communication support to enhance public profiles of players, coaches, and executives.
  • Manage certain channels of the team's social media to inform the public of baseball and promotional activity.
  • Anticipate potential challenges and develop proactive strategies to address emerging issues.
  • Act as the primary contact with the Major League Baseball affiliate on communications matters.
  • Plan, execute, and oversee organizational press conferences and media luncheons.
  • Oversee the Baseball Operations department, including team travel and player relations.
  • Supervise the press box staff and seasonal assistants.
  • Participate in strategic communications planning under executive leadership.

Requirements

  • Minimum of 2-3 years of experience in communications, public relations, or a related field, preferably in sports.
  • Bachelor's degree in communications, sports management, or a related field.
  • Exceptional verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Comprehensive understanding of media operations and potential challenges.
  • Deep knowledge of baseball, including rules, statistics, and historical context.
  • Proven collaborative skills with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Bilingual fluency in Spanish is advantageous.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience at another Minor League team or its affiliates, or as a member of the working media.
  • Fluency in spoken and written English.
