About the position

The Director of Business Development will play a pivotal role in driving growth and enhancing the business within the Home industry. This position is based in NYC and operates in a hybrid work environment. The successful candidate will be responsible for developing strategic business plans, managing key customer relationships, and staying abreast of industry trends and market dynamics. The Home & Accessories business is a global leader, with a strong presence in major sourcing regions and a diverse customer base that includes leading retailers across the US, Europe, Australia, Canada, the UK, and Korea. In this role, the Director will be tasked with executing strategic business development plans aimed at expanding the company’s customer base and achieving revenue targets. This includes identifying new customer opportunities, creating and executing business proposals, and building customer loyalty. The Director will also implement business development strategies tailored to merchandise categories, channels, and cost structures, while collaborating with cross-functional teams to align sales efforts with overarching business objectives. Account management and relationship building are crucial aspects of this role. The Director will create and enhance long-term relationships with customers to maximize business growth and opportunities, leveraging industry insights to maximize sales potential. Regular business reviews with valued customers will be conducted to ensure alignment and satisfaction. Market analysis and competitor research will also be key responsibilities. The Director will stay updated on Home industry trends, consumer preferences, and the competitive landscape, analyzing market data and customer feedback to formulate tailored sales strategies. Monitoring competitor activities will be essential to seize advantageous opportunities. Additionally, the Director will focus on team building and development, partnering with a global sourcing team to achieve full potential and fostering a collaborative, results-driven sales culture that thrives on service, innovation, and excellence.

Responsibilities

  • Drive, develop, and execute strategic business development plans to expand the company’s customer base and grow the business.
  • Ensure achievement of revenue targets and drive new business by identifying new customer opportunities and creating/executing business proposals.
  • Build customer loyalty and support business strategy and initiatives.
  • Implement business development strategy for merchandise category, channel, and cost structure.

Requirements

  • A minimum of 10 years of sales experience in the home industry, encompassing various segments such as full-price, off-price, and big box.
  • A proven track record of consistently achieving and surpassing sales targets.
  • An in-depth comprehension of Home pricing structures, market dynamics, and evolving consumer trends.
  • Exceptional negotiation and relationship-building skills.
  • Outstanding communication and presentation abilities.
  • A results-oriented mindset with a proactive and strategic approach.
  • Proficiency in analyzing market data to generate actionable insights.
  • Strong leadership acumen.
  • Proficiency in MS Excel, Word, and Suite.
