About the position

The Director of Business Intelligence - HR Reporting & Analytics Enablement at The Hartford is a pivotal role that focuses on overseeing the design and implementation of comprehensive business intelligence (BI) solutions within Workday and Tableau. This position is responsible for managing a dynamic team of business intelligence consultants and reporting experts who are tasked with developing innovative tools that support people analytics. The Director will act as the Product Owner for a high-performing team that creates reports and dashboards in Workday, Tableau, and Qualtrics, ensuring that all outputs align with the strategic vision of the organization. In this role, the Director will partner with various technical and business stakeholders to prioritize the backlog of work, maintain high quality and governance of metrics, and ensure that the analytics solutions provided are effective and aligned with the needs of the business. The HR Reporting & Analytics Enablement team plays a crucial role in delivering data and analytics solutions across all areas of the employee journey, including talent acquisition, employee engagement, diversity, equity and inclusion, compensation, and retention. The Director will bring a strategic perspective, adeptly converting large volumes of raw data into actionable insights through reports and dashboards. The ideal candidate will possess an agile mindset, emphasizing collaboration and innovative problem-solving while effectively communicating with both technical and business stakeholders. This role requires a strong understanding of human capital metrics and their application in strategic business decisions, as well as hands-on experience with HR-related systems such as Workday and Qualtrics. The Director will report directly to the VP of HR and will work in a hybrid arrangement, spending three days a week in the Hartford, CT office.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the end-to-end development of best-in-class reporting and analytical capabilities using Tableau, Workday, and Qualtrics, ensuring alignment with internal design frameworks and quality standards.
  • Manage a team of business intelligence consultants and report developers, supporting their daily work and coaching them to innovate solutions.
  • Serve as Product Owner in an agile environment, defining, prioritizing, and managing a backlog of work, mitigating blockers, and managing stakeholder expectations.
  • Collaborate with HR Operations, Technology, and Data Engineering leads to ensure effective management and communication of analytics updates and impacts.
  • Provide technical consultation and thought leadership on innovative analytical solutions to stakeholders and leaders.
  • Champion data literacy throughout the organization, soliciting feedback on tools and providing support.
  • Offer subject matter expertise on data, metrics, reports, tools, and modern business intelligence technologies.
  • Foster an innovative, diverse, and inclusive environment that encourages collaboration and problem-solving.

Requirements

  • A minimum of 10+ years of experience in a large corporate setting, utilizing various tools for data exploration and business intelligence such as Tableau and Power BI.
  • Experience with agile methodologies and mindset.
  • Proven portfolio delivery experience, engaging in the full lifecycle from planning to delivery and management of solutions.
  • Strong understanding of human capital metrics and their application in strategic business decisions, with hands-on experience in HR-related systems like Workday and Qualtrics.
  • Ability to manage multiple simultaneous deliverables while understanding the unique needs of diverse stakeholders.
  • Exceptional verbal and written communication skills, capable of articulating complex concepts to both technical and non-technical audiences, including senior leadership.
  • In-depth knowledge of data management and BI strategies, principles, and practices, including data quality and metric governance.
  • Working knowledge of technology and information systems, focusing on data analysis, data modeling, and reporting tools.
  • Strong presentation and collaboration skills, with the ability to create formal documentation and communicate job requirements effectively.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead and manage teams successfully, with a proven track record of initiative and continuous improvement.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience working in cloud hosting platforms like AWS is a plus.
  • Bachelor's or Master's Degree in Management Information Systems, Data & Analytics, or a related field is strongly preferred.
