About the position

The Director of Business Operations for Medical Oncology at the Cancer Center of South Florida plays a pivotal role in overseeing the operational aspects of the medical group practice. Reporting directly to the Vice President of Oncology Operations, the Director is responsible for ensuring operational safety and regulatory compliance within the practice. This position requires a strong focus on creating a collaborative and efficient workplace, adhering to quality standards, and implementing effective policies and processes. The Director will work closely with the Chair/Medical Director to manage the day-to-day business functions of the assigned department(s). This includes analyzing productivity results, communicating updates to senior management, and ensuring accurate data collection by site staff. The Director will also oversee financial management duties, including cash management and the collection of patient balances, while collaborating with clinical teams to optimize resource utilization and service delivery. In addition to these primary responsibilities, the Director will conduct regular audits of patient care services, maintain confidentiality of patient information, and ensure compliance with HIPAA regulations. The role also involves preparing departmental updates for leadership meetings, responding to staff inquiries, and managing special projects as assigned. The Director must maintain a safe and clean working environment, design and implement operational procedures, and uphold the organization's values and standards. This position is essential for maintaining patient confidence and ensuring the smooth operation of the oncology department, making it a critical leadership role within the organization.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee the day-to-day business functions of assigned department(s) in partnership with the Chair/Medical Director.
  • Analyze and report on monthly productivity results, recommending corrective actions as necessary.
  • Communicate effectively with senior management and physicians, providing regular updates on operations.
  • Ensure timely and accurate reporting of oncology business functions, including wRVUs, revenues, and expenses.
  • Maintain data collection accuracy and compliance through training and monitoring.
  • Manage cash collection duties, including co-pays and patient balances.
  • Develop plans for resource utilization and efficient service delivery in collaboration with clinical teams.
  • Review workflows and best practices in the clinic, maintaining ongoing dialogue with leadership.
  • Implement and ensure compliance with clinic policies and procedures, proposing improvements as needed.
  • Maintain documentation of patient care services by auditing records in a timely manner.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Business, Healthcare Administration, or Finance required.
  • MBA, MPH, or MHA preferred.
  • Minimum of 5 years of work experience in Medical Practice Management, preferably in oncology.
  • Strong proficiency with Microsoft Office products and Business Intelligence programs.
  • Excellent communication, analytical skills, and attention to detail required.
  • Strong business acumen, action-oriented, assertive, and confident.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience managing stakeholder relations in a healthcare setting.
  • Knowledge of HIPAA and other healthcare standards.
  • Experience in social media management and website design.
