About the position

The Director of Campus Ministry at Carlow University provides leadership and guidance in fostering the university's Catholic heritage and culture. This role involves overseeing spiritual growth opportunities for the university community, including students, faculty, and staff, through sacramental and liturgical life, as well as other faith-related programs. The Campus Minister collaborates with various university departments and external Catholic institutions to enhance the educational experience and spiritual well-being of the community.

Responsibilities

  • Active participation in university meetings and events related to the Mission and Values of the University.
  • Collaborate with the Special Assistant to the President for Mercy Heritage to develop a Catholic and Mercy culture at Carlow.
  • Participate in orientation programs for new students and employees.
  • Advise university departments on resources related to the Catholic heritage and culture.
  • Serve on committees that benefit from insights from the Catholic tradition.
  • Collaborate with diocesan offices and clergy to provide sacramental life on campus.
  • Plan and oversee liturgical events and celebrations on campus.
  • Provide spiritual development and pastoral care in the Catholic tradition.
  • Offer resources and referrals for spiritual development to students of all denominations.
  • Support the social dimension of students' university experience through collaboration with co-curricular departments.
  • Provide a spiritual presence at university functions and respond to pastoral needs.
  • Facilitate opportunities for communal reflection on experiences in light of the Catholic heritage.
  • Develop and oversee the department budget.
  • Represent Carlow University at campus ministry gatherings.
  • Maintain McAuley Chapel and its supplies.
  • Manage the campus ministry section of the university's website.
  • Hire and supervise work-study students.

Requirements

  • Demonstrate awareness and appreciation of the Catholic faith and respect for other religious traditions.
  • Understanding of Catholic higher education and the Catholic intellectual tradition.
  • 3-5 years of experience working collaboratively with diverse populations in higher education.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong computer application skills.
  • Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends.
  • Master's degree in theology, ministry, or related field.
  • CCMA Certification (or ability to achieve within 2 years).
  • Creativity in programming.
  • Enthusiasm for working with college-age students.
