About the position

The Sidney Kimmel Cancer Center is seeking a full-time Director of Cancer Risk and Genetics to lead its Cancer Genetics program. This position is pivotal in managing the Enterprise Cancer Genetics program, which encompasses a wide range of responsibilities aimed at enhancing cancer risk assessment and prevention strategies. The Director will oversee a team of genetic counselors and will be instrumental in developing and implementing programs focused on hereditary cancer risk assessment, genetic testing, and cancer screening and prevention. This role also involves overseeing research initiatives within the field of cancer genetics, ensuring that the center remains at the forefront of advancements in this critical area of oncology. The ideal candidate will possess a strong background in medical oncology and genetics, with a proven track record of leadership in clinical operations. The Director will be responsible for fostering a collaborative environment that promotes excellence in patient care and research. This includes building sustainable partnerships within the institution and with external stakeholders, as well as mentoring and guiding staff to achieve their professional goals. The Director will also play a key role in promoting diversity within the faculty, staff, and student body, ensuring that the Cancer Genetics program reflects a commitment to inclusivity and equity in healthcare. In addition to clinical and operational responsibilities, the Director will be expected to engage in strategic planning and decision-making processes that align with the overall mission of the Sidney Kimmel Cancer Center. This includes evaluating and enhancing existing programs, identifying new opportunities for growth, and ensuring that the center's cancer genetics initiatives are effectively integrated into the broader organizational framework.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee the management of the Enterprise Cancer Genetics program.
  • Lead and supervise a team of genetic counselors.
  • Develop and implement programs for hereditary cancer risk assessment, genetic testing, and cancer screening and prevention.
  • Oversee research programs in cancer genetics.
  • Foster strong, sustainable partnerships within the institution and with external stakeholders.
  • Promote diversity and inclusivity within the faculty, staff, and student environment.
  • Engage in strategic planning and decision-making processes for the Cancer Genetics program.

Requirements

  • MD or equivalent degree from an accredited professional school.
  • Board certified in Medical Oncology/Hematology.
  • Current license to practice medicine.
  • Five (5) or more years as a senior leader of clinical operations in a complex, academic healthcare organization.
  • Record of excellence in patient care.
  • Strong research background.
  • Strong communication, organization, and interpersonal skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to build strong, sustainable partnering relationships.
  • Experience working with and fostering a diverse faculty, staff, and student environment.
