About the position
The Director of Career Services at Thayer School is responsible for leading career services activities that enhance the professional development and job search capabilities of students and alumni. This role involves advising graduate and undergraduate engineering students on job search strategies, fostering career readiness, and building relationships with employers, faculty, and alumni to support students' career transitions.
Responsibilities
- Lead career services activities for students and alumni.
- Advise and counsel students on job search strategies.
- Develop relationships with employers and alumni.
- Collaborate with faculty and staff on external relations programs.
- Implement innovative career services programming and technology.
- Analyze and communicate data effectively.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree plus 6 or more years of experience in career counseling or professional development in higher education.
- Exceptional knowledge of current practices in career and professional development.
- Demonstrated skills in innovative and strategic approaches to career services programming.
- Proficient in Microsoft Excel and Google Sheets.
- Strong communication skills with internal and external stakeholders.
- Proven leadership and management skills.
- Strong supervisory skills and ability to manage multiple priorities.
Nice-to-haves
- Master's degree in counseling, education, or related area.
- Experience working as an engineer or with engineers in a technical field.
- Familiarity with academic and social pressures faced by students.
