About the position

The Director of Career Services at Dartmouth College leads career services activities that support the professional development and job search efforts of students and alumni. This role involves advising graduate and undergraduate engineering students on job search strategies, building career readiness, and developing relationships with employers and faculty. The director collaborates with various stakeholders to implement a coordinated external relations program and oversees recruiting activities and career events.

Responsibilities

  • Counsels engineering students on career planning, resume and cover letter creation, job search strategies, and salary negotiations.
  • Organizes and presents career development workshops and professional skills training.
  • Oversees the design and delivery of recruiting activities, including career fairs and recruitment sessions.
  • Identifies career services needs and establishes program goals aligned with the Thayer Strategic plan.
  • Hires, trains, and supervises career services staff, directing workflow and strategic priorities.
  • Cultivates communications with employers and collaborates with various academic and professional development teams.
  • Remains current on employment trends and implements best practices in career services.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree plus 6 or more years of experience in career counseling or professional development in higher education.
  • Exceptional knowledge of current practices in career and professional development.
  • Strong communication skills with key stakeholders.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Excel and Google Sheets for data analysis.
  • Proven leadership and management skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities.

Nice-to-haves

  • Master's degree in counseling, education, or a related area.
  • Experience working as an engineer or with engineers in a technical field.
  • Familiarity with academic and social pressures faced by students.
