About the position

The Director of Catering and Event Management at Franklin Marriott Cool Springs is a pivotal leadership role responsible for overseeing the catering sales and event management team. This position requires a highly motivated and detail-oriented individual who can effectively lead a team while achieving financial and budget goals for the catering department. The director will engage in active selling strategies to solicit and close local, group, and association business, ensuring the hotel meets its revenue targets. The role involves daily management of the catering and event management team, fostering employee relations, and ensuring high levels of guest satisfaction. In this role, the director will provide day-to-day leadership to the on-property catering sales and event planning team. They will manage and direct the catering sales managers to achieve hotel revenue goals by proactively targeting high-value accounts and implementing effective sales strategies. The director will interact with various stakeholders, including guests, clients, vendors, and other hotel departments, to monitor and enhance guest satisfaction. The director will also be responsible for managing the hotel's catering sales efforts, including local and group/convention business. This includes soliciting and booking local catering business, developing group business, and managing catering sales revenue and operation budgets. The director will prepare all event documentation, coordinate with sales and property departments, and ensure consistent, high-level service throughout all phases of property events. They will recognize opportunities to maximize revenue through upselling and enhancements, manage group room blocks, and act as a liaison between salespersons and customers throughout the event process. Additionally, the director will forecast group sleeping rooms and event revenue, review billing and payments with clients, and handle guest issues as they arise.

Responsibilities

  • Provide day-to-day leadership to the catering sales and event planning team.
  • Manage and direct the catering sales managers to achieve hotel revenue goals.
  • Interact effectively with guests, clients, vendors, and other hotel departments to monitor guest satisfaction.
  • Manage the hotel's catering sales efforts, including local and group/convention business.

  • Develop and manage catering sales revenue and operation budgets.
  • Prepare all event documentation and coordinate with sales and property departments.
  • Ensure a seamless turnover from sales to service back to sales.
  • Recognize opportunities to maximize revenue by upselling and offering enhancements.
  • Manage group room blocks and meeting space for assigned groups.
  • Participate in customer site inspections and assist with the sales process when necessary.
  • Act as a liaison between salesperson and customer throughout the event process.
  • Forecast group sleeping rooms and event revenue for assigned groups.
  • Review billing and payments with clients and handle any guest issues.
  • Review and manage guest feedback and satisfaction results with associates.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree from a four-year college or university or equivalent combination of education and relevant experience preferred.
  • Two to four years of hotel catering sales experience or employment in a related position or field.
  • Leadership experience is required.
  • Marriott Consolidate Inventory (CI) experience is a plus.
