About the position

The Director of the Center for Disruptive Technology and Future Warfare (CDTFW) at the National Defense University (NDU) is responsible for leading and managing research, operations, budget, and personnel related to disruptive technologies and future warfare. This role involves developing impactful research initiatives, engaging with Department of Defense stakeholders, and supporting the education of national security leaders. The position is a term appointment not to exceed three years, with a focus on producing cutting-edge research that informs defense and national security policy.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and manage CDTFW research, operations, budget, and personnel.
  • Develop and manage research and academic initiatives related to disruptive technology and future warfare.
  • Disseminate publications and research products to relevant DoD and U.S. government stakeholders.
  • Conduct and supervise research on disruptive technology and future warfare, including artificial intelligence and autonomous systems.
  • Support Joint Professional Military Education (JPME) through teaching, guest lecturing, and mentoring students.
  • Enhance the reach and impact of INSS research for DoD stakeholders.
  • Engage with senior leaders in DoD and other USG agencies regarding research projects.
  • Liaise with high-level officials from USG agencies, foreign governments, and academic institutions.

Requirements

  • Earned PhD in international relations/affairs, political science, national security affairs, or in computer science or engineering with a national security focus.
  • Minimum of 10 years of experience in management roles related to disruptive technologies and defense missions.
  • In-depth experience conducting scholarly research and producing publications on disruptive technology and future warfare.
  • Demonstrated familiarity with relevant literature in the area of defense and national security strategy.

  • Extensive experience interacting with high-level government officials and senior officers.
  • Experience in building collaborative relationships across agencies and organizations.
  • Skill in developing and teaching graduate-level courses on disruptive technology and defense strategy.
