About The Position

The Director of Chaplaincy Services/Clinical Chaplain at Texas Health and Human Services Commission is responsible for overseeing and coordinating chaplaincy services for individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities. This role involves providing spiritual care, conducting religious services, and managing a team of chaplains and volunteers. The position emphasizes the importance of meeting the diverse spiritual needs of residents and fostering an inclusive environment for all faith traditions.

Requirements

  • Graduation from an accredited undergraduate-level university/college with a Bachelor of Arts or Bachelor of Science degree.
  • Experience as an ordained minister in a parish setting or as an ecclesiastical endorsed professional chaplain in a healthcare setting.
  • Graduation from an accredited graduate program with a Master of Divinity or equivalent theological degree.
  • Completion of a minimum of 2,000 clinical hours of Clinical Pastoral Education from an accredited center.

Nice To Haves

  • Board Certified with a Professional Chaplaincy Cognate Group, such as the Association of Professional Chaplains.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee, coordinate, and lead religious and spiritual services and groups to meet the diverse needs of residents.
  • Advocate for the religious and spiritual needs of residents and staff across all levels of the SSLC.
  • Counsel institutional staff and conduct group seminars regarding the religious needs of residents.
  • Provide sacramental services for residents in accordance with the chaplain's faith practices.
  • Make pastoral visits to critically ill residents and their families based on referrals or requests.
  • Supervise assigned staff and chaplaincy volunteers, including performance evaluations and timekeeping.
  • Work with interdisciplinary teams to evaluate individual spiritual needs and document residents' attendance and responses.
