About the position

The Director of Classical Education and Development at Choice Schools is responsible for providing leadership and administrative support in the development and implementation of the Academy's curriculum cycle, teacher mentorship programs, and professional development initiatives. This role involves collaboration with instructional leaders and ensuring compliance with educational standards, ultimately aiming to enhance the educational experience for students and teachers alike.

Responsibilities

  • Creates and coordinates mentoring programs by model.
  • Plans and implements training of teacher mentors and mentees and writes the mentor handbook.
  • Provides resources and guidance to support a mentoring program.
  • Supports teachers in building out Individual Development Plans (IDP) within the evaluation process.
  • Conducts curriculum review cycles to ensure access to a viable curriculum.
  • Collaborates with instructional leaders and authorizer support teams to empower leaders and ensure accountability in tier 1 instruction.
  • Utilizes the Hillsdale K-12 Curriculum for Hillsdale Member and Curriculum Schools.
  • Supports the Superintendent with Curriculum and Academic Components of Charter Contract Applications and Renewals.
  • Supports the MICIP process at each academy to ensure proper activities are listed and implemented.
  • Observes in the classroom and provides feedback on instructional practices and curriculum fidelity.
  • Regularly inspects compliance with established Child Study non-negotiables and addresses discrepancies.
  • Utilizes NWEA Map testing, local assessment, and state testing data to drive academic decisions.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree required; Master's degree preferred.
  • Meets state of Michigan certification requirements.
  • Curriculum and Instruction experience.
  • Successful experience as a teacher.
  • Effective communicator in both oral and written form.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and adept at establishing and maintaining good rapport at all organizational levels.
  • Highly organized.

Nice-to-haves

  • Successful experience as a teacher or as an instructional leader.
  • Previous experience in school leadership roles.
  • Knowledge of Hillsdale K-12 Curriculum.
